Dimitris Nalbadis

“D. Nalbadis is a tireless magic realistic.
For the last 20 years he has created novel works, sometimes with a marked sharpness of design, emphasizing their metaphysical clarity, and sometimes in an almost classical way, in order to approach the clear calm atmosphere of a familiar but unknown landscape.
The priority in his oeuvre is the dialectical process between opposing positions, his familiar style of painting leading us into new aesthetic experiences.

In most of his work, there thus co-exist two or more contradictory conceptual images, with the result that his painting is located at the center of a paradox, as for example with the olive trees floating in a cloudy, atmospheric sky. The dialectic relationship of juxtaposition and contradiction functions as a driving force behind the recognition of the other side of reality, where there is poetry, dream and expectation. Painting, like poetry and philosophy, is not satisfied with one side of things. With the impulse of the impassioned creator, Nalbadis adheres to the principles of representational painting and the virtues of fine plastic art.”
